Five years in the making, the new nearly 1,500-seat sanctuary of Rio Rancho’s Church of the Incarnation has a ceiling that soars 42 feet high. Designed in classic Romanesque style with a cruciform layout, the sanctuary is filled with natural light from clerestory windows.

Ronald McDonald House Charities of New Mexico

The expansion campaign completed in 2008 not only added more guestrooms to the Ronald McDonald House, it also brought modern amenities, added energy efficiencies and safety upgrades to the new wing. It is now time to bring the 28 year-old rooms in the original part of the House up to the standard of the new rooms.

“It’s important for every family who stays with us to have a similar accommodation and not feel they drew the “short straw” in terms of their assigned room” remarked Sharon Nolen, Operations Director.

To rectify this inequity, the Board of Directors approved a Renovation Project to bring all areas of the Ronald McDonald House up to modern standards to ensure the comfort and safety of all families who stay with us.

Britton Construction is honored to be selected as the contractor on this special project.

CROSSWINDS OF HOBBS

The phase 1 design for Crosswinds consists of a 28,933 s.f. building which houses the main auditorium, childrens facility, nursery, meeting spaces, kitchen, coffee bar/bookstore, and a large multi-use lobby/common space.

The auditorium includes stadium style seating for 820 worshippers, a large stage, baptistry, and backstage for set preparation.

Future phases include an outdoor amphitheater and two 30,000 s.f. expansions providing classroom spaces, children and youth programs and a large fellowship hall.

The building shell is designed to allow for future additions by utilizing metal siding which can easily be disassembled and reused during the expansion process.

The entire project is located on a 91 acre site in Hobbs, NM.

UNM Castetter Hall Phase One Addition

Phase I of the Castetter Hall South Addition marks the first building on UNM’s campus to become a LEED®-certified building. Under the state’s mandate all public facilities must, at a minimum, obtain a silver-level LEED certification. This addition successfully achieved gold-level certification. The building’s fundamental design kept sustainable architecture as one of its primary goals.

Another Design/Build Project for the Archdiocese of Santa Fe

Construction on the Church of the Incarnation in Rio Rancho is well under way. Completion of the 29,000 square foot sanctuary is expected in May 2011.

Britton captures Renovation work on Historic Hodgin

Britton Construction was awarded a $1.3 million contract this month to up-grade Hodgin Hall, the oldest building on the University of New Mexico campus. Dating to 1892, Hodgin Hall serves as the Alumni Center. The remodel will include upgraded mechanical and electrical systems. The work is scheduled to commence in March and take about eight months. Hodgin is located in the far southwest corner of the university's main campus.
The UNM Alumni Association has moved out of Hodgin Hall into office space next to the UNM School of Law at 1117 Stanford NE while the renovations are under way.
The project was heavily bid, with eight other contractors in the running. UNM continues to update its campus, and during the recession, it has been a welcome source of work for construction firms.
Britton was active in the Castetter Hall Gold LEED-certified remodel, which included a 6,000-square-foot greenhouse on its rooftop.

Britton Construction Design Build ...

Here’s what we hear from clients:

“Our architects designed something we can’t afford to build…”
“We came in way over budget due to change orders…”
“The architect says it’s the builder’s fault and the builder says it’s the architect’s fault…”

Design-Build is a method of project delivery in which one entity (Britton Construction) provides a single contract with the owner to provide architectural/engineering design service and construction services.

By contrast, with the “traditional” design-bid-build approach, the Owner engages an architect or engineer to prepare drawings and specifications under a design contract, and subsequently selects a construction contractor by competitive bidding (or negotiation) to build the facility under a separate construction contract.

In Design-Bid-Build contract the owner, (you) warrants to the Contractor that design documents are free from error. In Design-Build, the opposite is true. The Design Builder, Britton Construction, warrants to the owner that design documents are complete and free from error. This eliminates finger pointing between the architect and the builder. In a guaranteed lump sum contract, the design-builder assumes all of the risk to deliver the project at the specified price. The only reason change orders may occur are for changes in project scope, which arise from the owner, not from errors in the design documents.

Destiny Center – A Church With Personality

Dorman & Breen Architects and Britton Constructions philosophy for the design of this church was to make the facility an extension of the personality of the ministry. We looked at making the building a tool for the ministry that supports the church and its activities. With the new Destiny Center in Rio Rancho, NM, we feel our team got it right.

Destiny Center is a very non-traditional church featuring contemporary services. And one of best things about the project was the desire for a non-conventional approach. The result is very contemporary building that is fun looking with lots of interesting shapes and angles. We intentionally wanted to make the statement that this is not a traditional church.

“Everything is fabulous. We couldn’t be happier with design and quality of construction”, said The Rev. Jerome Wade, Destiny Center’s Pastor.

Castetter Hall South Addition

Phase I of the Castetter Hall south addition marks the first building on the UNM campus to become LEED® certified. Castetter achieved gold-level certification, with the building’s sustainable architecture as one of its primary goals.

The 15,867 s.f. addition will consume 31.5% less energy overall than traditional buildings on campus. Considerable care was given to the south-facing addition to maximize the amount and quality of natural light thereby reducing the need for artificial light. In order to control the increased solar gain, high performance glazing and solar shades were designed to reduce air conditioning loads. Natural light, expansive windows with views to the outside, and operable windows enhance environmental quality.
